Masharps College is a rural-based training institution which seeks to empower rural and peri-urban communities with appropriate skills. Chances for employment are increased substantially when one has a set of skills which are relevant to the labour market. However, rural communities have complex and numerous challenges which exclude them from participating meaningfully in any competition for employment or even starting their own businesses.

Given that rural communities generally lack critical infrastructure, such as electricity, running water and even gravel roads, they generally tend to lack the necessary exposure which is taken for granted in urban settings. Computer and technical skills are either rare or non-existent. This implies that even if they manage to get to tertiary institutions, they start at a disadvantage because they struggle to write assignment on the computer or conduct research.

Masharps College has a selection of courses which seek to close or at least narrow the gap between rural and urban job seekers in terms of their basic qualifications.
